For those of you reading this, you’ll already likely know who Dodo Pubs are, or at least you’ll have had a pint, burger or pizza at either The Rusty Bicycle, The Rickety Press, The Bottle of Sauce, The Up in Arms or The Last Crumb.
You’ll also not need an update as to how upside down our world is right now, nor will it come as a surprise that our business Dodo Pubs, a successful independent community focused pub co. has been hit hard by recent events.
Chris and I opened the Rusty Bicycle in East Oxford, back in 2009 and although we didn’t know it then that was the beginning of a 10 year journey for what was to become Dodo Pub Co. Our aim was to create a truly unique neighbourhood space that brought you (our customers + friends) together through a love of food, drink and community. Today we have 5 pubs in 3 different cities and employ over 100 people.
We are immensely proud of the brand we’ve crafted over the last decade with the help of many long serving staff and of course you, our long-standing friends. We also plan to work our arses off to keep this thing going, but in the meantime – while the front doors stay locked – we are asking for a little support.
THE IDEA – PLEDGE A BAR TAB TODAY & SPEND IT ONCE OUR DOORS REOPEN
Our idea is a simple one – we not asking for charity – just a pledge from you to come back and enjoy your favourite Dodo Pub once again sometime in the near future. The pledge buys you the reward of a bar tab – that you’re able to spend just like any other bar tab.
£10 pledge now = £10 Bar tab (once we reopen)
£25 pledge now = £25 Bar tab (once we reopen) … and so on.
WHEN WILL WE REOPEN?
In short, as soon as the government says it is safe. In the meantime, we’re working on creating a super-safe Deliveroo service where you can buy Beer + Pizza for Delivery. In time (when we’re able) a collection service too.
(please note – your pledged bar tabs – can only be redeemed one the pubs are open to the public again – not for delivery or collection).
SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH ALL THIS PLEDGE MONEY?
In short, it’s going to contribute to our cash flow over the coming months. Even though we’re closed we still have utility bills, subscriptions, loans and other stuff that doesn’t go on pause like the rest of the country. The money will also go towards our staff that will continue to work on the new ‘collection and takeaway service’ while social distancing is still in place.
HOW ELSE CAN YOU HELP US?
That’s an easy one! Continue to follow us on social media and share positive comments with us and the neighbourhood.
Stay Safe. Be Kind.
