Oktoberfest at the Rusty Bicycle and the Bottle of Sauce

Get ready… this year we’re celebrating Oktoberfest not once but TWICE.

Festivities hit the Bottle of Sauce first, on Friday 20th October, with the stonkingly good Heavy Beat Brass Band (who you may remember from this year’s Jazz Fest) blasting out New Orleans-flavoured beats, and then the Rusty Bicycle on Friday 27th October, where Dodo favourites Hosen Brass will fill the pub with foot-stomping oompah.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without something to fill your belly… think hot dog specials, steaming pretzels and the pièce de résistance: epic quantities of beer served in (some might say inappropriately) large steins.

Rusty Summer Street Party 2017 (plus refurb news!)

We threw our second ever Rusty Summer Street party on Saturday 29th July. Like last year, we closed off a section of Hurst Street, rolled up our beer truck stage, and settled in for a day of live music, beer and food.

Luckily the weather cooperated and we had glorious, hot sunshine all day.

Ha, just kidding! In classic British summer style, it chucked it down – but people just pulled out their umbrellas, zipped their jackets up, and carried on. And it was pretty wonderful. We were treated to the sweet sounds of Rusty favourites including Sian Lloyd-JonesJohnny Payne & The Thunder, Death of the Maiden,  Little MammothsLittle Brother EliJoaquim & the Smoke Machine, and Zaia. We drank a bit more beer than we should have. We ate burgers and pizzas outside, even though to be quite honest it was a bit chilly and damp. And we loved every minute of celebrating with this neighbourhood that we’re lucky to be a part of.

And now we’re closing our doors for ten days, while our beloved Rusty gets a much-needed refurb. In the meantime, relive the street party magic:

Celebrate International Beer Day With Us

We’re huge fans of the idea of International Beer Day – a global celebration of beer taking place in pubs, breweries and backyards all over the world this Friday the 4th of August.

It’s all about the joy of good beer with good mates – one of our favourite things in the world, in case you couldn’t tell – and in honour of this most worthy occasion, we’re offering eminently shareable growlers of Dodo lager and ale for just £10 all day.

p.s. International Beer Day is also about saluting the great folks who brew and serve our beer, so make sure you raise a glass to our lovely bar staff while you’re at it!

The Rusty Summer Street Party 2017

It’s nearly here! The Rusty Bicycle Summer Street Party is back on Saturday 29th July. As we did last year, we’re closing off Hurst Street between the Leopold Street and Magdalen Road junctions and rolling in our beer truck stage for a day of live music, food, drink and general merriment for the whole neighbourhood…

To keep your ears happy and your toes tapping, we’ve got sets from Rusty favourites including Little MammothsLittle Brother EliJoaquim & the Smoke Machine (plus more acts TBA!). Oxford’s own Zaia will round the evening off, playing chill reggae with a soul/folk/rock twist.

And if you get hungry or thirsty, just grab your craft tipple of choice from our outdoor bar, pick up your favourite pizza to enjoy outside at our pizza hatch, or savour a Dodo burger, served on the street all day.

Here’s all the important info:

When? Saturday the 29th July, from 12pm.

Where? Corner of Hurst Street & Magdalen Road.

What? Food, drink, live music, good times.

Who? This is a celebration of and for the whole neighbourhood – all are welcome.

See you there!

Wimbledon 2017

Ah, Wimbledon… the surest sign that summer’s begun! We love sitting back with a glass of fizz (or a couple of pints) and strawberries and cream while we watch other people exert themselves, so we’re showing the matches in all three pubs this year. Best of all, whenever Murray plays, jugs of Pimm’s and Dodo lager are only £10, so you can ease the inevitable tension with a drink or four…

Save the date! 29 July: it’s the one and only Rusty Summer Street Party!

After the success of last year’s Rusty Bicycle Summer Street Party, we’re ramping up for an even bigger and better bash this year to celebrate the wonderful East Oxford community that makes the Rusty so special.

As before, we’ll be closing down a section of Hurst Street, rolling in our beer truck stage, and making sure there’s live music, booze, and food aplenty. It’s important to us that this is a community event – we are a neighbourhood pub, after all – so if you have any ideas or thoughts just drop us a line, or pop into the Rusty to say hi.

Stay tuned for more details, but mark your calendar now: It’s all happening on Saturday 29th July from 12 noon.

Happy father’s day, fathers! Have a pint on us…

This Father’s Day, all dads get a free pint of Dodo lager or craft ale when they order brunch (or a lunch main) – our way of saying thanks for everything they do for us, great and small.

So whether you’re a dad yourself, or you want to make sure yours knows how much you appreciate him (or both!), make sure you pop into one of the pubs on Sunday 18th June for a spot of brunch and a beer…

An Easter egg hunt, Dodo style (yes, you can win beer)

Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned Easter egg hunt – especially when there are prizes involved?

To celebrate Easter Sunday this year, we’re sending our Dodo elves out into the wilds of Oxford and Cheltenham to hide golden eggs in both cities.

All you have to do is find one and bring it in to one of our pubs to claim your reward of choice: a stylish Dodo t-shirt, a main meal, or, of course, a growler of refreshing beer.

How will you know where to look? Just make sure you’re following your favourite pub on Twitter, because we’ll be releasing clues as to the whereabouts of the golden eggs throughout the day…

It all kicks off the morning of Sunday 16th April! Remember to follow us on Twitter, or you’ll miss all the clues…
